2008 Meeting and Program Schedule
January 8th Meeting - APS member Sister Maria Liebeck demonstrated her use of oil pastel and ink.
February 5th Meeting - APS member Melanie Herman Johnston demon- strated her intergration of wood block printing and the medium of pastel.
March 4th Meeting - “Get to Know Each Other Meeting” - A meeting for members to become better acquainted. Members brought portfolios and pictures of their work to share. Icebreakers and refreshments were provided.
April 1st Meeting - Dr. Arthur Wilson of Hot Springs, a pastel artist who focuses on wildlife as the subject for his paintings demonstrated his illustration style. His work is exhibited and collected nationally by museums and in private collections. He is included in the recently published Wildlife Art: Sixty Contemporary Masters and Their Works. May 6th Meeting - Sally Williams of the Arkansas Arts Council is Artist Services Manager and oversees the Artists Registry, a free service provided to the Arkansas arts community offering a web presence for arts and an avenue for arts enthusiasts and supporters to discover the rich variety of artists in Arkansas. She spoke on how to access these tools.
June 3rd Meeting - Kelli Reep, a writer and public relations practitioner, spoke on “How to Market Your Art With Little or No Money.”
July 1st Meeting - Arkansas painter Dennis McCann talked to the group about his art and demonstrated his pastel painting technique.
August 5th Meeting - Paul Leopoulos spoke about the THEA Foundation, a non-profit organization which supports arts in our schools. The Arkansas Pastel Society presented THEA Foundation a $500 scholarship for a deserving student.
September 2nd Meeting - APS member Virmarie DePoyster demonstrated pastel grounds and papers.
October 7th Meeting - Michael Murphy spoke and demonstrated software programs for digital photography and how the software can be used as a creative tool for your art work.
November 4th Meeting -The regularly scheduled November meeting was cancelled because it fell on national and local election day.
December 2, 2008 Meeting -This meeting was our annual member Christmas party; a fun time to meet and mingle with members and enjoy some refreshments. Members who chose to, brought miniature pastel paintings and exchanged them with other artist in the organization; a good way to start collecting fellow- members art work.
