Welcome to the Arkansas Pastel Society (APS) web page. We are a regional organization for pastel artists located in Little Rock, Arkansas. Our goals are to educate the public about pastel painting, network with pastel artists, conduct shows and exhibits of pastel work, and conduct pastel workshops. The Arkansas Pastel Society sponsors one workshop a year by a nationally recognized pastelist. Maggie Price and Kitty Wallis held 2006 and 2007 workshops. The 2008 workshop was conducted by Doug Dawson. Richard McKinley will conduct a five day workshop and Doug Dawson will conduct a three day workshop in 2009.

The Arkansas Pastel Society held national exhibits in 2005 and 2007. Check out the menu bar for the winners of our 2007 exhibition which was judged by Albert Handel. The 2009 national exhibition is December 4, 2009 through January 10, 2010 and will be judged by Doug Dawson. The opening reception is December 4th. Click here for the Prospectus to enter.

Through art scholarships the Arkansas Pastel Society will strive to promote the medium of pastel to deserving students. In 2008 our first $500 scholarship was granted to the THEA Foundation, a non profit organization that supports the arts in our schools.

We are proud to be a member of the International Association of Pastels whose objective is “to celebrate worldwide, the expanding presence of dry pastel as a major fine art painting medium,” and to “provide a strong voice for pastel artists and the luminous medium of "Pastel".”
